How Much Xanax Is Safe To Take In A Week?
My doctor perscribed me to take Xanax on an as needed bases whenever I feel severe anxiety. However I don’t want to get addicted to it so what should be the limit per week.

The textbook dose to cause the minimal dependence is 0.25mg per day. Taking this as a baseline, you could probably take 2mg per week, spread out however you need, and experience almost no dependence. That being said, 2mg per week is rather small if you have anxiety daily. Most anxiety patients on Xanax accept beforehand that they will develop some physical dependence, and at the end of treatment they taper the doses slowly under the direction of a doctor, and generally experience minimal withdrawal symptoms which last just a few days.
However I agree with the first answer that the treatment of your anxiety is paramount here, and for reasons that would be off-topic in this answer, my (student) opinion is that optimal symptom relief is more often obtained via longer-duration meds taken at regular intervals. Xanax “as needed” is kind of the opposite of that principle. If it works for you, fantastic, that’s the ideal situation. If not, I’ve given you something to ask your doctor about.
There is no standard weekly max. for Xanax (Alprazolam). The daily maximum dosage is 3-4 mg/day. If you can comfortably take less, than by all means do so. Remember that your anxiety is the foremost concern here, though. Take Xanax if you need it. If, however, you find yourself taking more than you are comfortable with, there are other, less addiction-prone anti-anxiety drugs available, such as SSRIs and SNRIs. Finally, if you find yourself becoming dependent, talk to your doctor immediately to get help tapering off of the drugs and finding a suitable replacement.
