Can Xanax Cause Permanent Sexual Side Effects Or Any Other Irreversible Side Effects?
Can Xanax cause permanent sexual side effects or any other irreversible side effects? That is, side effects that persist after the discontinuation of treatment? I’m asking because I will be taking single doses of 2mg, two times a day. I’m 21, male.

Hi: I have been on Xanax for a number of years for Panic Disorder. From a female standpoint, I have never had sexual problems on this medication. I have never read that it causes impotency for males (either temporary or permanently), however everyone is different – guess it’s best to talk to your MD. If you take this drug for a month or more, you will have a very bad withdrawal syndrome (which can persist for weeks or months) should you suddenly stop it. Should you wish to discontinue, it’s imperative that you do it in small increments over a long period of time
(best to have a doctor tailor a withdrawal plan for you). I have read some reports of brain ‘shrinkage’ in people who have taken benzodiazepenes for a long period of time – however, don’t know how valid these ‘reports’ or ‘studies’ are. Guess I should be really dumb by now. Also, any and all medications, especially when taken over a long period of time, have the possibility of affecting kidney or liver function.
I have always taken my Xanax sublinglually (melted it under my tongue). I have found it to be more effective in that manner – although bitter tasting.
this is not a scientific point of view but my husband took similar pills and soon unable to have sex. He had to make a choice keep his job or have sex, he chose the first.
It came back to normal when he stoped but it took a little time.
