What Is The Equivalent Of Vicodin And Ibuprofen?
My grandma broke her leg and is in a lot of pain. But will not take vicodin because she is afraid she will get addicted to it. But she takes a lot of ibuprofen. Isnt like 8 of them equal too one vicodin?

There is no equivalency for these two. Vicodin is a potent narcotic painkiller. No amount of ibuprofen will compare to its pain-relieving properties. Taking too much ibuprofen can result in GI tract bleeding along with a handful of other unpleasant symptoms. Although it is potentially addictive, as long as she uses it as supervised and ordered by her doctor, it is safe.
If she takes the meds as directed by the doctor, there is not an addiction risk. The addiction risk comes in when abused or used for long term chronic pain.
That being said, vicodin is codiene and tylonal. She can take the same amount of tylonal that is in the vicodin (and without you telling us the dosage of the vicodin or the tylonal you have on hand, there is NO way we can tell you how many pills equals one vicodin), however, no matter how much tylonal or ibuprofin she takes, it wont give the same amount of pain relief without the codiene. Also remember that the vicodin has tylonal, not ibupropfin.
Without you telling us the dosage of the pills you have, we cant tell you how many is safe to take. DONT take more than the recommended dosage of ibuprofin without first talking to the doctor. And if she refuses the vicodin, that is exactly what you need to do… talk to the doc for alternative options.
Your Grandmother can take vicodin without becoming addicted to it, she should take it “as” prescribed of course. No more than what her pain dictates.
Does she have an addiction problem or has she just heard too many tales about drug addictions?
On the other side of the coin I have heard that ibuprofen works better for some people.
there is no equivalent to vicodin. she is probably old anyway. so just tell her to take her vicodin and deal with it!!!
