Do u get what I mean? Since both are anxiolytics.
I heard that Ativan is stronger than Valium so how many milligrams of Valium do u have to take to make it equivalent to…let’s just say 2 mg of Ativan?

You can’t give an exact answer. They are similar drugs. Ativan acts quickly and is more potent. It also wears off quicker. Valium acts slowly, lasts a long time, and takes more for the same effect. Valium is broken down in your body into other chemicals that have similar effects, hence it lasts longer. I will say that when I dose Ativan, I usually start at 1 or 2 mg, and when I dose Valium I usually start at 5 or 10mg.

It’s patient prefernce most of the time. They are often used for similar things, but they’re not the same drug.
Although these drugs are both benzodiazepines they are obviously different and there is no direct comparison in dosages.
Lorazepam does act quicker than Diazepam and has a shorter half life

10 mg of Valium (diazepam) is equal to 1 mg of Ativan (but everyone is different). So 20 mg of Valium would be equal to 2 mg of Ativan.
One interesting things about benzodiazepines like Valium and Ativan is that most doctors really don’t think about the bioequivalence of the drugs when switching between two medications.
For example, the maximum dose of Ativan is 10 mg/day (but doctors can prescribe more). The maximum dose of Valium is 40 mg/day. And doctors might go above 40 mg of Valium but not to 100 mg, the equivalent to Ativan. Xanax is the worst, 0.5 mg of Xanax is equal to 10 mg of Valium. And the maximum dose of Xanax is also 10 mg, equal to 200 mg/day of Valium and that is not going to be prescribed.

i would say 10mg feals the same as 2mg of ativan
