All medications should be kept out of reach from children. Trazodone is actually an antidepressant which is non addictive. The main side effects are drowsiness and dizziness. I actually take it for sleep. In my opinion I would definitely be concerned about the side effects it could have on your daughter.

ahhh...short answer is yes! ANY prescription meds should not be given on a whim. Doctors PRESCRIBE them for a reason, not to be used like candy! If you KNOW she does this then you are aiding her and her friends. You need to do something to STOP this immediately!

Yes! Trazadone is an antidepressant also used for people with insomnia. It could cause her to fall asleep and not wake up. This is a prescription drug and should never be taken without a doctors orders.

No, it doesn't have an addiction potential. Keep an eye on it because it is prescribed to you, not your daughter. But it is something she would only take once, out of curiosity.

I think my experience was unusual, but I had a horrific reaction to Trazodone. It was prescribed to help with sleep, and after taking it for a week or two, I became suicidal and extremely agitated. It took a good three months before I felt normal again. I was in my 30s at the time, an age that has a lower rate of this kind of reaction. Teens and people in their early 20s are more likely to have a bad reaction to an antidepressant. I would be concerned that if your daughter were to take the drug for more than a few days, she could have this same kind of reaction.
This isn't a recreation drug. It was originally (and sometimes still) used as an antidepressant, and ALL antidepressants have the ability to cause severe side-effects.
