Is It Possible To Taper Off Trazodone After Taking It For Sleep?

Is it possible to taper off trazodone after taking it for sleep?
It seems like it is impossible. Nobody truly tapered off. Is there anybody who has done it? I posted this question for five days and have not received any clear answer. I want an answer from a person who actually tapered off. I do not want answer from nurse or doctor who wants to comfort trazodone user with lies.

I have taken Trazodone for sleep (and I am a med student).
What dose are you on? When taken for sleep, Trazodone is almost never taken above 150 mg (typically 50-100 mg). A higher dose can be stimulating as the drug increases serotonin and norepinephrine. The max dose is 300 mg or 600 mg in some situations.
How long have you been on it?
From what I personally did (and I know other to have done) is to either stop the drug cold turkey or slowly reduce the dose over a few days. I could help more if I knew the dose, amount of time you have taken it, and what symptoms you have when you do not take it. Normally trazodone will not cause “discontinuation syndrome” when it is just used at night.
I stopped trazodone by reducing the 100 mg dose over 3 or 4 days. Most people just stop taking it or reduce the dose over a few days. Some people will have insomnia for a few days (or longer) or have a psychological dependency to it.
It is not addictive like Valium or Morphine is. If you are having discontinuation syndrome then taking Prozac should help ease you off. And additional drugs like Clonazepam, Seroquel, or Risperdal might be used for a few days to help with sleep and reduce day time anxiety.
I have personal knowledge and professional too. Feel free to ask me questions.

I take/took trazadone.
I abused sleeping pills, and got to the point where I could no longer sleep on my own. My doctor gave me trazadone because it is safer. Trazadone does help me sleep safely.
I took it every night for a while. Then, I noticed I did not need to take it every night. So I suddenly stopped taking it for a while. I did not notice any negative side effects from cold turkey. I do take it sometimes when my anxiety is to high to let me sleep, and the next morning I have those head aches.
So I stopped cold turkey and was fine. I was taking 50mg.

It is possible to taper down any psychotropic drug, you just have to go slow. At first only take 3/4 of your pill. Do this for fiv e to ten days, then cut down to 1/2 do this for longer, say 10 to 20 days, then 1/4 for 10 days and then none. Now bear in mind I am not a doctor, so you might need to check with yours. The reason you taper off is to prevent withdrawal symptoms, which suck by the way.

I’ve read of various people tapering off. Apparently it doesnt give any serious effects like the brain zaps associated with other antidepressants.
I have heard of severe rebound insomnia which puts me off coming off this drug. Not that I would want to, when my sleep is this consistent and my depression is improving.

are you a doctor? did you buy it on the corner or something? if you are a doctor in africa you can start your own medical board and share knowledge between yourselves that way. otherwise, it is wise to see the person who created your chemical balances about it.
