What Time Of The Day Or Night Should I Take My Norvasc Tablet (5 Mg) For Maintainenance Of Blood Pressure?

Posted by admin on Monday, October 26th, 2009

I am taking Norvasc 5mg tablet for blood pressure maintenance. What time of the day or night should I take it? I am presently taking this medicine before going to bed at night but a friend told me to take it in the morning as this prevents the blood pressure from rising when doing stressful work.

My husband has high blood pressure and his doctor told him to take it at night so it is in the system effectively for the day.

I advise my patients to take this drug at the time that they are most apt to remember to do so. It really works well for 24 hours (not all drug delivery systems work as well as this one) and you should be fine no matter when you take your Norvasc. Just so you remember to get it on board!

You should take Norvasc 5 mg in the AM, due to, at night your blood pressure and pulse rate are usually at it’s lowest. You are resting at night. During the day your blood pressure rises. Norvasc’s peak time is 6 -9 hours, so taking Norvasc at approximately around 7 am – 8- am. it should by peaked at about 1:00 pm, to control your blood pressure while you are doing your most stressful tasks of the day. You should also monitor your BP closely, to see when your blood pressure is it’s highest and lowest, writing it down with the times of day taken. Then discuss this with your doctor, as to when he/she thinks you should take your medication.

my heart doctor told me to take mine at bed.its probably best if you ask you doctor.

I usually advise my patients to take it in the morning because of the nature of our circadian rhythm (normal blood pressure rise and fall). Our blood pressure is usually highest between 10am-2pm. This means that when you take your Norvasc at 7 or 8am, this will give the medication time to peak at around 11am-12noon. However, if you work night shifts and sleep during the day, then you might wanna take it in the late afternoon or early evening. The most important thing though, is to remember to take it everyday and to take it at the same time each day. This way, you have a constant level of the medication in your system.

Yes, the morning is best.

It depends on what is easiest for you. I work at a hospital as a nurse, and some of my patients take it in the morning, some in the evening, some at bedtime. If you have concerns, talk to a doctor or pharmacist. If the pill bottle just says take one tablet daily, then it really doesn’t matter. As long as you take it as directed. And if you forget a pill, don’t double up. Just go back to your normal routine.

Most doctors recommend you take all blood pressure meds in the start of your day. BP meds work best when you are up and doing things when stress arises. And always listen to your doctor…

i would take it in the morning..bp falls during sleep and the blood level peaks at a time when you don’t need it…..also, you may rise feeling lightheaded if you took it at night.

Take it in the morning.
