What Is The Advantage Of Methadone Over Other Opiates For Treating Drug Addiction?

Posted by admin on Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Methadone is just as dangerous, just as addictive and is MUCH harder to get off of (withdrawal is much worse). I’ve experienced this first hand. For non IV addicts who remain on methadone for years, why not just let them have their opiate of choice? Is this just politics?

It’s the lesser danger. Methadone is legal, and is administered by qualified nurses in clinics, which is much better than taking too many pills or using IV drugs. I hardly think it has to do with politics. Getting into methadone treatment is not mandated. People get on the program to get real help when they’ve tried detox, rehab, etc. The point of methadone treatment is to get them off their opiate of choice.
As for suboxone, I wouldn’t know personally but I do hear that it is incredibly hard to get off of. But I haven’t ever heard of someone using suboxone to get off methadone..

I believe from experience that IT IS just politics. I have known many drug users that simply turn to methadone when there is nothing else available to them. The good news is, there’s a new drug called syboxin which is actually and opiate blocker which only fools your brain into thinking it is on an opiate and therefore not addictive. It is also better than methadone because of the fact that it is an opiate BLOCKER you cannot take any kind of opiate while youre on it or it will make you very ill and you will no longer feel the effects of the opiates you took.

beacue its harm minimalisations swopping an illegal deadly drug with the possibilty of jail, HIV.Hep c for legal use of a slow acting drug that doesnt give u a high.. but there are other options apart from methadone….other narcotics ure prob talking about can be used for getting a buzz from which kinda defeats the purpose.. need to take a long acting flat tough/peak curve type drug

Methadone is a bunch of bullsh!t. If you want to get off opiates, you need Suboxone or Subutex. It’s the newest treatment out there and is amazing. It makes withdrawl pain free and actually helps heal your receptors in your brain while getting you off the sh!t in a painless way. They are opiate blockers at the same time as they make your brain think there are opiates in your body, even though they are completely opiate free. Check them out. I prefer Suboxone over Subutex, but to each his own…
Best of luck :)

funny that you brought up suboxone.. trust me, suboxone isn’t easy to get off of either.. they give you methodone to get off heroin, they give you suboxone to get off methodone, and whats next?? suboxone is a MOFO to get off of too.. best way to get off is to go to rehab.

Will there are definitely advantages and disadvantages when it comes down to methadone. Some people called methadone miracle drug and for some people it may be a potential nightmare and your methadone detox may become a permanent methadone maintenance.

Methadone is like heroin however, it isn’t as strong. That is why it is used to help addictions.
