I have polycystic ovary syndrome, and take metformin. I have issues with infertility, and for me, metformin was not enough, but metformin and clomid did the trick. For many people who are insulin resistant, metformin alone is enough to restore ovulation. Anytime that you are having unprotected sex, there is the possibility of pregnancy, so treat yourself as if you are pregnant, just in case you are. Avoid alcohol, take prenatal vitamins, and so forth. My infertility specialist recommends that women with PCOS stay on the metformin for the first 20 weeks of pregnancy, as it can help prevent miscarriage. You might want to look into this, and talk to your doctor about it. Good luck!

i start on metformin this week. i am waitning for my docs prescription but i hear they help you ovulate so you can conceive..lot of success stories so hopefully it’ll work for me…..its not a fertility drug so don’t worry it will not make you more fertile but it will help you release eggs so your chances of conceiving increases……wish u luck……

I am taking it along with clomid, but I have not ovulated yet. I have only been taking it for about six weeks, so not long enough to really see a result. It works, but it doesn’t work for everyone- but keep taking it until your doctor tells you otherwise. If you’re young, they might have you take it on its own for up to six months to see if you ovulate.

I was on it two months before my IVF and for my first trimester.
It’s a b!tch of a med.
My best advice about it…watch out for sugar.

I have PCOS. I am pregnant now. I tried metformin for about 8 months and lost about 25lbs and it was not enough. So they gave me clomid for one cycle and I became pregnant. My doctor had told me that sometimes it takes a few months using just metformin if it is going to work alone. It is enough for many people. If you are insulin resistant then you should look into diet and exercise program to go with it. I continued to take the metformin through the 1st trimester.

Hello! I used clomid with my first two babies and with my third I used metformin. The clomid seemed to work faster but the metformin definately works. Best of luck hun!
