How Can People Possibly Believe That If Marijuana Were Legalized It Would Be Regulatable?
It has already been proven that there are too many drunk drivers on the road for our law enforcement officers to stop, so why compound the problem by legalizing marijuana so that those same people will be drunk AND stoned behind the wheel? Don’t we have enough of that problem without legalizing marijuana?

Comments
1. People are already getting stoned and driving, don’t be naive. Prohibition makes it harder to control a substance because it takes control out of the governments hands.
2. If weed were legal there are a lot of people that would opt to smoke vs. drink, drunk driving is MUCH more dangerous than driving stoned. Marijuana isn’t nearly as impairing to ones driving abilities.
3. If marijuana were legalized people would be less likely to drive stoned. Right now a lot of people use the mindset, “I’m already smoking marijuana which is illegal, why not drive while stoned?” If it were legal the only illegal action they would be doing is driving which means they’d be less likely to ignore the law.
Let’s also not forget that legalizing marijuana has many other benefits. We waste billions of dollars on the war on marijuana every year, why not start creating more jobs which will earn money so we can stop wasting money on a failed war on drugs.
Edit: I think it’s a new record for me, 3 thumbs down in less than an hour. I suppose that goes to show how close minded and uneducated some people are about this subject. If people had even a slight grasp on the concept of prohibition and how it does more harm than good people wouldn’t react so negatively to my statements.
Did alcohol prohibition do more harm or good? It did more harm which is why the prohibition of alcohol ended and it’s why the prohibition of marijuana should end.
the government wouldnt be able to regulate or successfully tax marijuana and that is in essence why it remains illegal. these people you speak of don’t necesarily believe it could be regulated, they believe it should be regulated as there is no reason for it to remain illegal other than the governments inability to regulate it. and as for the driving factor, very few accidents happen due to a stoned driver as compared to a drunk driver. while i wouldnt recommend it, driving on marijuana is much safer than under the influence of alcohol.
The legalization of weed is simply a legalization of a choice. The fact that you even would say that it would compound another problem shows that you know nothing of pot smokers.
#1 Legal or illegal people who smoke weed are going to smoke weed. Making it illegal simply means that on TOOOOOO many occasions the tax payers has to flip the bill for the housing (JAIL).
#2 They’re going to keep driving there hooptys 20 mph’s under the speed limit. Because that’s what weed does, it makes you paranoid.
#3 What’s wrong with allowing freedom of consumption? The freedom to consume does not protect for crimes committed while enjoying what ever the person consumes even if such limits are driving.
NO what I think is you have some sort of hard on against people enjoying there lives how they see fit. And because you know everything you decide to enjoy your freedom of speech to express it. It’s at least nice that the freedoms you enjoy are protected, FOR NOW!
I don’t know if it’s because of the fact that marijuana’s illegal that potheads are more careful when they drive, but they are. The danger I’ve found myself in when in a car with a pothead is the danger of dying of old age before we arrived at our destination.
Personally, when I was smoking, I found that I was in much less danger of getting into a wreck when stoned than drunk. I never did drink when I was the one driving, but whatever. I paid attention to yield signs way more often when stoned than when sober, though. It’s kind of easier to sober up on marijuana than when you’re drunk.
Anyone who drinks and drives deserves to have their license taken away on first offense, imo. I feel a little hypocritical, since I did drive when I smoked, but like I said, drinking is far more dangerous.
Because most distributors would register as a business and would go through the proper channels. If someone is still dealing unregulated, they would still be charged with a crime. You’re not going to stop everyone but it would stop all the ridiculous convictions. Marijuana isn’t all that much worse than alcohol or tobacco, there’s just all this paranoia from the conservatives who just don’t want things to change.
i understand your concern, but people will smoke weed regardless of weather or not it is illegal (just like during alcohol prohibition), and trying hopelessly to stop it only wastes tax payer money and fills up prisons with largely harmless consumers while real criminals get off easy to make space. I believe it could be regulated, the same way alcohol is now. The fact is that marijuana users would be too lazy to grow their own crop and buy it from stores instead (just like how people don’t grow their own tobacco and rarely make their own alcohol). The government could easily tax it like it taxes cigarettes, and it would put lots of dangerous dealers out of business. In all fairness, alcohol is a much more dangerous drug than marijuana, and like the person above me stated, high people tend to drive rather slowly and are able to maintain control of their vehicles
When someone drives a car high, he’s more careful. This may lead to accidents, yes. But when someone drives a car drunk, he’s less careful, he wants to go faster, wants to show how awesome he is. So it’s much more dangerous. It’s not about the “driving high” stuff, man. It’s about the taxing. The government wants to get money from the weed they sell, but people are more likely to grow it at home than buy it in a coffee shop. However, I think Netherlands gets millions by selling weed in the “cafés”, so i really don’t understand. Trust me, politicans don’t care about your health. And what you said is not true; if marijuana was sold in coffee shops, that wouldn’t increase the number of people using drugs (yes, alcohol IS a drug too!!), cause there would still be an age limit. It’s not like the number of these people would duplicate. You know that’s a very stupid theory.
Why should a safer substance be illegal but these dangerous drugs are not? The question shouldn’t be ‘”why should this be legal” it should be “why shouldn’t this be legal”. As long as alcohol remains legal there is no reason to keep marijuana illegal. Marijuana is far safer than alcohol and cigarettes, so there is no logical reason why it should be illegal. How about people who drive on prescription pills that impair judgment, do you suggest we make prescription pills illegal?
you bring up a good point…
thats why there are good and bad sides to legalizing the drug
BAD: health risks, driving accidents, and a bunch of ppl being high
GOOD: TAXATION!-our govt could regulate the growth and sale of the drug, also, the use of the drug could go down, think about it high schoolers wudnt be doing nething to badass by doing it and even though ther wud obv b age limits i think the use wud go down. another thing is that organzied drug dealers and other crime orgs would loose power
Maybe they should allow weed and make alcohol illegal. You can’t even overdose on weed. Impossible. While a drink to many and you may not wake up.
I am agree the legalize the cannabis because some cutes Mafias
cant abusing more whit the price.
Some sick people need this cannabis because no support the medicament.
Government regulations is for people who follow the law since they don’t anyway they would just be breaking more laws.
I’d support legalizing marijuana. I really don’t see how it is any worse than alcohol.
You know, Congress tried to outlaw drinking once and what happened?
People still drank. Prices of illegal beer went through the roof. Who made money? Underworld beer distributors.
They don’t “believe” it these fringe nuts “want” it. Dont’ worry it ‘aint gonna happen.
They just want their doping to be legal.
Because they smoke a lot of pot.
speaking from experience,Ive drove drunk never hurt anyone thank god.i got pulled over and got a dui ten years ago.that was enough for me i really don’t like handcuffs.but the effects of alcohol are much different than pot.i got pulled over for speeding .you feel ten feet tall and bullet proof.pot on the other hand makes driving suck, takes forever to get anywhere you really don’t want to deal with strait people its a buzz kill.id much rather stay on the couch.prohibition should be abolished because it makes otherwise law abiding citizens criminals.the effects of stress on people is very destructive .pot is a great stress reliever.the goverment spends lots of money overseas fighting the drug war.we could use the resources(cops and courts, jails)for dealing with terrorism and securing our boarders.courts could focus on white collar crimes that seem rampant.while some escape drugs are legal and others are not is hypocrisy.pot could be taxed which could help fund health care.if it was legal it would take the money out of it for smugglers and gangsters.Obama and bush have admitted to using illeagle drugs they just didn’t get caught .many people have gotten caught and have to put it on their resume every time they look for a job.Ive had to quit smoking it cause the random test at work .all the chemical drugs get out of your system before pot does it only takes about week for coke but pot takes a month which is unfair.they cant even make a test to tell if your high now only if you’ve been high two weeks ago.potheads don’t want hurt anyone they want peace love and rock and roll.it probably wont get legalized cause if a bunch of potheads get together it turns into a concert.potheads just hope and pray that one day to get high without fear of losing your job ,kids, reputation.cause you want kick back laugh at silly stuff and relax in peace.Ive smoked pot for over twenty years and held a job and have committed no other crimes.it would be nice not to see cops as the enemy but a public servant there to protect and serve.and be able to thank them for the job they do instead of wondering if their going to search your car for any evidence of dope.we do have alot of other problems bigger problems so why waste time and resources dealing with potheads .let me buy it and smoke it legally ill pay taxes on it i do on cigarettes which should be illeagle but I’m hooked on those cant seem to quit much more addictive than pot.but its big business cant be stopped.pot cant be legal but cigarettes cant illegal.its a shame on this country.god bless America
