Lyrica!!!!!!!!!!!?
I’m a little freaked out now about this med. I have fibro and am currently taking effexor xr 75mg, ultram, 50mg (4 a day), and vicodin 5/500 (4 a day). My doctor just gave me lyrica 75 mg twice a day. As someone who used to take 8 vicodin 10/325, klonopin, effexor xr, and ultram a day, I just don’t feel that this regimin is going to work. My dr. thinks that taking this small amount of lyrica will prevent me from taking more narcotics. I’ve read all the scary answers about this med. Does anybody think this combination can keep me from hurting? I’m in constant pain. BAD pain.

Lyrica works good for nerve pain but it works well with cymbalta, an antidepressant.
Hi there, this reminds me of a question that I wrote months ago!! Except, I didn’t hear any scary answerer’s regarding Lyrica. Anyway, I am chronic pain patient with DDD, Aggressive Osteo Arthritis, neuropathy, and severe sciatica.
Before adding Lyrica to the mix, I was taking Ultram,Lortab,Methadone,Nuerontin and Zoloft daily. So I to was pretty freaked out when the doc suggested that I switch to Lyrica instead of the neurontin. I decided to give it a shot, and I gotta say, after about a 2wk adjustment period I’m glad I did it. I have also cut Lortab out of the mix. I feel really good.
My nerve pain is much more manageable, and my energy level is improving a little, I think from just cutting out 1 of the narcotics.
I know what you mean about BAD pain, and understand your leeriness toward Lyrica, but I really can’t say anything bad about it.
Good Luck to you, I hope you find what ever works for you!!
I’d give Lyrica a try. Anti-seizure meds have been used for FMS treatment for many years and for some, it makes all the difference. I haven’t talked to anybody who’s had any side effects.
Ask about increasing the Effexor XR. My doctor rx’s Effexor XR at 300mg a day for fibromyalgia. BTW, Effexor and Cymbalta are both SNRI’s.
I don’t see any meds for sleep? Klonopin will make you drowsy but it doesn’t affect your sleep cycles. Lack of stage 4 sleep is a common problem in FMS. Because we don’t get the restorative sleep, we wake up in pain, have brain fog, are exhausted, etc. Have you ever tried any tricyclic anti-depressants… they can help cycle your sleep? Ex. elavil, pamelor… trazadone can help also.
FMS needs to be treated using various modalities- anti-depressants, exercise, pain medication, etc.
And most importantly, your doctor needs to find what works for you. For some, only pain medication helps… for others, Elavil is the answer.
Good luck
Nicole
I was on Neurontin with heavy doses to attempt a better management of my pain from nerve damage. I was given Lyrica because it carries FAR less side effects, is more effective in pain management and requires less dosage. It’s still a Gabapentoid, but synthesized better and as it’s still a non-generic drug here in the U.S., the lack of side effects from inert fillers helps make it better as well. While in my case, the Lyrica isn’t stopping the pain, it’s softening the severity and sharpness with the same effext as Neurontin w/o the side effects and mass amounts of dosage. (i take 600mg of Lyrica a day, as opposed to 4500mg of Neurontin)
BEWARE OF THE DRUG CALLED LYRICA!!! Seriously, when I was first diagnosed, I was placed on Lyrica. I took it for seven months. Prior to Lyrica, I have NEVER weighed over 164 pounds. After seven months, I gained 80 pounds. Then, LYRICA destroyed all of my front teeth (nine root canals, restorative Dentistry, 25K dollars now, 35K dollars to finish). When you stop taking the drug, it is worse than withdrawing from any Opiates (Morphine, Vicodin, Lortab, Oxycodone). Please do research on all of the side effects this medicine has. Don’t simply go to Pfizer’s site, as they won’t tell you the REAL side effects. Visit forums and do searches. You will find out how LYRICA can destroy your life. Good Luck!
