None die from overdose or from direct effects of the drug.
Any deaths relate to behavior while under the influence of LSD, like trying to stop a train thinking you’re Superman.http://www.narconon.ca/LSD.htm

Michael is correct. You would have to take thousands and thousands of times the “active” or “normal” dose to reach toxicity. Nobody has ever died from LSD toxicity.
A dose of LSD in the 60’s was about 250 millionths of a gram (which is kind of too much, so, very heavy). Currently, doses are in the range of 100 millionths of a gram (lighter and easier to control-but still fun)–which is largely why you never hear about people freaking out or trying to stop trains or fly anymore.
NIDA will lie to you–they are a government website with a political agenda. Don’t get your information there. I would suggest http://www.erowid.org. It is not a “just say no” site and it is not a “hey let’s all do drugs site”. It is simply information based on scholarly research and in many cases, relates the experiences of people who have actually done the drugs.
Some of the most brilliant people you have ever heard of have done LSD and, using the insights gained while experiencing it, have changed the world. Steve Jobs of Apple Computer, Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, the Beatles, Aldus Huxley, author of “A Brave New World”, Henry Luce, founder of TIME magazine, Cary Grant, the late actor, Stanley Krubrick, the great filmmaker among many others have all tried LSD and changed the world with their art and technology.
That said, kids shouldn’t do drugs until their brains have finished developing–around the age of 21. Prior to that, you might be too imature to “handle” the magic–and may just end up giggling and hurting yourself or others.
“Just say no” until you’re old enough to handle it.
And please, don’t help the prohibitionists spread lies. LSD is relatively harmless and one of the most important discoveries of the 20th century. I would be willing to bet you that 90% of people who have taken LSD would tell you it was the most important thing they’ve ever done in there life.
It’s magic.

There is only one death so far directly attributted to LSD. Reported in the book Psychedelics Encyclopedia by Peter Stafford is the case of a young man who took about 320,000 micrograms intravenously. The average dose is about 125 micrograms.
I have heard that the man believed he was injecting amphetamines.
The LD-50 (amount needed to kill 50% of test subjects) of LSD for humans has been estimated to be about 14,000 micrograms, making it one of the safest drugs we have, illicit or legal.

Why exactly would you put an ad saying not to do it? Most people already think of it as a terrible, dangerous illegal drug. You should put an article in the paper telling people of its succesful use in psychiatry. The succesful results of LSD used in psychiatry have yet to be matched by any other kind of drug or therapy. Why not put an ad in the paper saying how many times someone is killed from a result of alcohol or tobacco a year? To answer your question about how many times someone dies a year from LSD less then a dozen a year, but everytime somebody does die from it, it’s made into a big deal by the newspapers, that is why so many people think of it as a terrifying drug. It’s time the general public changes the way it looks at LSD.
It’s unbelievably unlikely that you’ll overdose on LSD.
LSD does no physical harm on your body.
It’s time people got over this whole “LSD is terrible, it frys your brain.”

Check out NIDA. They have all the data about drugs broken down as well as other info. Especially pay attention to “Assessing Drug Abuse within and Across Communities. Its 155 pages that you have to download with adobe. But it is well worth it.
