How Can I Prevent Lorazepam/ativan Withdrawal Symptoms?

Posted by admin on Monday, December 14th, 2009

I am 13 years old. For several days now I have been taking 1mg of lorazepam once or twice a day. Will I be able to prevent withdrawal symptoms by slowly decreasing, and like reducing it to one a day, then later every other day, etc.? Will that help? Thanks. (:
And if I can’t really prevent withdrawal, how long should it go on for and how severe can I expect it to be?

You should ALWAYS see your doctor before taking your self off of an anti depressant. However, if you have only been taking it for a few days, it hasn’t had time to fully get into your system yet, so you shouldn’t have any withdrawl symptoms. Why are you taking yourself off though? Sounds like you haven’t even gave it time to work. Anti depressants take anywhere from 2-6 weeks to start working.
