Posted by admin on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I was givin .05 mgs of klonopin and i only take half of that (as needed) and i also take 1/2 of 10 mg of lexapro once a day and i was just wondering two things. First is when the lexapro starts to take affect will i need to use the klonopin any longer. And second have i get addicted to take only hale of .05 mg of klonopin once a day or even taken ? .05mgs once a day for like a week ? I like to take the klonopin because it helps me get through the day feeling some what normal but i do not by any means wanna get addicted to this pill .

In college, I had terrible anxiety.
I was given Klon and it worked. It is not that addictive, XANEX is addictive, much more.
Just get to where you are making it through the day, and then try to taper off slowly after awhile. Praying to God and reading my Bible worked almost as good as the klonopin for removing my anxiety. That is not the point though.
The point is that if you are taking klonopon is is probobly meant to be temporary. Don’t take more than you need and use it as a tool to help overcome your condition. Oxycontin/codone and xanex are much, much, more addictive than .5 mg of klonopin. You should be fine. Good luck!

I understand that this pill is very addictive and if you want to cut back on it, you need to discuss this with your Doctor. You can read up on it and it says that you can get seizures and other things when you stop it all at once. Talk to your doctor or your pharmacist to find out what is the best time to take those pills.

Klonopin can be addictive if taken over a long period and/or abused (higher doses than what you are doing). Since it sounds like it’s for anxiety, when Lexapro kicks in you probably will have no problem stopping.
Splitting Klonopin isn’t an issue and taking the least amount necessary for decent functioning is smart. The Lexapro you should take exactly how your doc prescribed. Most likely it will take a few weeks to start working, and depending, you may need your dose increased. Be patient (and don’t halve the dose unless directed).

Something doesn’t seem quite right here. If you take a half of a 0.5 mg klonopin that is almost a nonexistent dose and Lexapro isn’t not recommended at 5 mg but a start is 10. Xanax comes in the same doses as Klonopin. Meantime these can be used as long term treatments for anxiety and panic attacks and Lexapro is usually not discontinued at all if it works. I work in a correctional facility and I see inmates that take many times the dosing you describe.

It can be addictive. I was put on Klonopin, same dose, for Essential Tremors ( my hands shake so I can’t do some things easily without it ). My psychiatrist put me on a different medication because he didn’t want me taking the Klonopin long term. He said it was too addictive. I’d try a more innocuous (if there is such a thing– I used to take Effexor. It was hard to get off of, too.) for your anxiety. Maybe once the Lexapro kicks in, like you say, you’ll be able to wean yourself off with your doctor’s permission.
