What Are The Chances Of Getting Off Heroin?
I know someone who was shooting it up. Low doses to keep from getting sick. She is now in a rehab, and I question daily if she will use again. I believe she will. I believe the urge will always be there, and she is not strong enough to “just say no.” Does anyone have experience with a recovering addict, some advice to help me help her thru her recovery?? You would be saving someone’s life. This is her first time in a rehab to get clean, and she has been using heroin for at least 4 years.

I’m sorry to hear that but its just like any thing else that you get addicted to You have to want to be off. Yes the urge will be strong but If you belief in her and she be lives in her self then there is a good chance.. You have to help and support her I know your scared and I’m sure she is too. I know that shes putting pressure on her self not to fail and wants to make you proud , prove every one wrong that she can kick this but you have to make sure that you are there for her to help not to judge. You have not been where she is and not been threw what she has been threw. I know that a lot of people say turn to God and I’m not sure what your or her belief is but I know with the 12 step program that they belive that God can help you threw it and I know even with out the 12 steps God has helped alot of people threw things. You need to let her know the past is the past and we now look to the futcher. I know its going to be realy hard maybe you should find some one that you can talk to as well expecaly if your going to be her main suport. It could help. Good Luck
The best chance of getting off is to have her committed for a time until her counselors think that she can make it own her own. Good luck.
i know of people who have and i know of people who havent. i guess it depends, like most things how much the person really wants to.
Just be there for her, she going to need a lot of help for a few months.
it depends on how much she wants to get off the bad stuff, if she’s not strong enough to say no stay with her all the way and pray for her
I’m not going to sugar coat this, you’re dealing with a long time junkie. I believe injecting it more addicting than snorting it. She was on it for “at least” 4 years, which means it may have been longer. This is her first attempt at rehab? Has she tried to quit before? There’s a huge percentage of people who relapse after their first attempt. Sometimes even after many attempts. She will not quit if she doesn’t want to. If she’s serious about it, she needs to stay away from her friends that are still doing it. If you are willing to help her, and you try to keep her away from it and ppl doing it, she may fight you, and you may end up “hating”, and her you. But you can’t give in, no matter what. Even if she’s sick from it. She just has to deal with it. She’s got a hard fight. Remember though, rehab doesn’t work for everybody. It may be something she has to do on her own. The urge WILL still be there. But she can surprise you, with how strong she really is. Good luck to the both of you, you need it. And I must tell you that I think it’s GREAT that you’re not “throwing her away” and writing her off. If you’d like to talk, lemme know. and I’ll help with whatever I can.
Keep her busy, away from people she used with.Bring some joy into her life so she has something to lose. And stick with her when she relapses,it’s part of recovery
your friend should try and get a naltraxone script. this would prevent her from using heroin as it would make her ill. because it pushes the opiates out of the brain if heroin is smoked or injected it tries going to the brain which causes the heroin to clash with the chemicals in the naltraxone aka (blocker) my ex was an ex heroin addict when i got with him, and during our relationship he kept on relapsing. the blocker was great because i knew and he knew that he couldn’t use for 2-3 days once he’d took a tablet. your supposed to take the tablet every day. the only problem is the addict has got to take it. you need liver function tests with the medication just to make sure it isn’t damaging your liver. you can get it on NHS and as long as her liver was able to your friend would be allowed it for the rest of her life. i hope she can get off it for good. my ex still has relapses and ive seen how much pain and hurt it causes the addict and everyone around them.

I have known a couple of people who have stopped using it, it can be done. Maybe just be there for her and believe that she can, I think the rest is up to her.
She should try smoking or chewing slavia its a legal drug ( you can buy it on ebay or if you have a local smoke shop maybe) . Slavia helps relieve the stress caused by the addiction . You get a buzz for like 5 min if you smoke it tho . But it doesn’t really have negative effects other than lung cancer if you smoke it .
i lived with one for 4 years he went into rehab quite often, didn’t work because he was doing it for me,just be there for her it is so hard to come off heroin they kid themselves that they will stay clean, then temptation takes over and they are back to square one. Some people can do it though.
